Developing Programme for 2009

April 3rd -19
This year we hope with the cooperation of the local community to exhibit visual arts at as many public places as are willing. West Cork is rich in talented and varied artists so selection will be difficult. A team of interested local artists are beginning to work on ideas on how to develop from last years small but highly professional exhibition in the beautiful but isolated An Sanctoir.
The amazing and wonderful Easter Adventure, may if possible prove to be the best ever! This coming year the theme will be FANTASY LAND a crazy mixture of many stories developed by old and new members of LAST MINUTE PRODUCTIONS. We hope to put on a free spectacle in the village of Ballydehob, where people can get a taste of the actual adventure and meet some of the characters; tickets for which will be available ahead of time. Exact times and events will be posted at a later date.
Melissa Baker, storyteller will be in the village in her gypsy caravan telling stories for children
one afternoon and Snatch comedy Improvisation will once again come down from Cork city and make us all laugh! They will also hold a Improvisation workshop for children.

History

The Easter Adventure has been an annual event at An Sanctoir since 2001. It began as a fundraiser for the local Steiner Based Kindergarden. Using themes from children's stories, creating costumes out of recycled materials and local artists and actors and interactive adventure was created on part of the 30 acres of wildlife sanctuary that is an Sanctoir. With all this magic has been created time and time again a unique and fanciful event for families to experience together. Previous themes have been "Peter Pan" 2008, "Alice in Wonderland" 2006, "The Wizard of Oz" 2005, "Pinnochio" 2004, Celtic Myths and Legends 2002 + 2003, Nature and Wildlife 2002, "Mother Goose" 2001, Fantasy Characters 2000. In 2006 Artistic director of the event, Susy Cremers wanted to honour the work of the artists involved and raise the standard by turning it into an art project. In 2007 encouraged by Cork's Arts officer she took the ambitious leap and created a two week Arts Festival. While there were many challenges, a decent programme was put together and for a first time festival it was a huge success. So much so that more people have joined on board to make the W.C.E.A.F. another success this year!
